Top 10 Tuesdays: Quotes About Books and/or Reading

I’m so glad I’ve been reminding myself to keep track of some of the quotes I’ve loved from books on Goodreads, since it will be a huge help for this week’s prompt! The theme for this week is to find quotes from books to fit a theme of your choice. Right away, my mind jumped to quotes that involve books or reading. I love the way so many authors have captured the experience of being a reader, or what books and reading mean to some people. If it weren’t for Goodreads, I definitely wouldn’t remember the majority of the quotes that I’ve read, even if I really loved them. Maybe I’d be inclined to write some of them down somewhere, but I feel like I’d be likely to forget. As it is, I usually need to push myself to go onto the quotes section on Goodreads after finishing a book to make sure I mark down my favourites, if they are on the list. It tends to annoy me when people enter page-long sections as quotes, or quotes that begin or end very abruptly, but the feature is very useful for keeping track of the quotes I love. I decided to go through my list and find some of my favourites that deal with reading, which shouldn’t be too hard since these are quotes that I’m often most likely to save! I had so many to choose from that I decided to include more than 10.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

“No matter who you are, no matter where you live, and no matter how many people are chasing you, what you don’t read is often as important as what you do read” — Lemony Snicket, The Vile Village
