Technically, this week’s post was supposed to be about best or favourite illustrated covers, but I don’t know if I really have specific favourites! I really like the illustrated covers trend in general, especially because it gets away from movie poster covers or covers with real people on them, both of which I tend not to like that much. Actually, I used to say that I don’t like people on the cover in general, but realized that didn’t really apply when the people were illustrated so I guess it’s not such a blanket statement anymore. With the amount of books with illustrated covers that I own, I would have expected it to be much easier to find some that I really like but it was surprisingly hard! Many of the covers of the books I own are very simple and just include the two main characters on a solid-coloured background, maybe with one or two other items visible. While I like these covers, I wouldn’t necessarily say they are my favourite or the best since they’re all basically the same. Instead, I tend to prefer illustrated covers that have a bit more of a scenic background or that show the characters doing something or in a way that reflects their personality or relationship. To be honest, I don’t actually care that much about the cover design in general. I certainly will notice when there is an especially nice (or particularly ugly) cover, but it’s not something I necessarily pay so much attention to, so that also may be why it was harder than expected to make my list! I haven’t actually read any of these books yet, but many of them are on my TBR for this year.
